Krieg DeVault LLP is pleased to announce that Partner John P. Higgins has joined the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice. Mr. Higgins concentrates his practice on commercial litigation, particularly representing construction industry clients, including contractors, remodelers, restoration providers, developers, and related businesses, in complex disputes where the stakes are high and outcomes are critical to business continuity.
Mr. Higgins handles construction disputes of all sizes, from homeowner and smaller project matters to multiparty, multimillion-dollar litigation involving construction defects, project delays, breach of contract claims, insurance coverage disputes, and regulatory enforcement actions. A recognized leader in construction law, he routinely advises clients on compliance with construction and consumer protection statutes, defends against enforcement actions and contested claims, and develops strategic approaches to mechanics’ liens, collections, and insurance recovery efforts. His practice emphasizes efficient, results-driven advocacy through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and trial, and he is frequently called upon to try cases when negotiated resolutions fail to protect a client’s best interests.
Clients rely on Mr. Higgins for his deep understanding of the construction industry and his ability to anticipate and navigate challenges unique to those who build. His strategic counsel is grounded in practical business considerations, with a focus on protecting operations, reputation, and financial stability when litigation threatens a company’s future.
Mr. Higgins earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and his B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude, from Wabash College. He is admitted to practice in Indiana and before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
