Milwaukee, WI – Today, Krieg DeVault Managing Partner, Deborah J. Daniels shared her 146 page report with the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors, outlining recommendations to the organization after a six-month long policy review. Daniels was hired in November 2016 by USA Gymnastics to lead an investigation of the policies and practices relating to the protection of young athletes from abuse, and ultimately make recommendations to help protect gymnasts and to transform how USA Gymnastics handles complaints of misconduct.
Her report, encompassing 70 recommendations, calls, among other things, for immediate reporting of sexual abuse allegations to proper legal authorities. Additionally, the report calls for a complete change in the culture of USA Gymnastics. The recommendations include the areas of administrative management; board structure and duties; education, training and athlete support; member requirements and enforcement; encouragement of reporting of suspected violations; screening and selection of coaches, volunteers and other adults with access to athletes, the process for filing misconduct reports, the national team training center and national team selection process.
The USA Gymnastics board unanimously accepted all of the recommendations in Daniels’ report. Coverage of the report’s release has garnered national media attention, including being highlighted on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.
