Michael J. Messaglia Named Managing Partner of Krieg DeVault
January 31, 2018
Krieg DeVault is pleased to announce that long-time Partner Michael J. Messaglia has been elected as the firm’s new Managing Partner.
Mr. Messaglia’s legal career spans nearly 25 years, beginning in 1993 when he was hired as an Associate at Krieg DeVault. He has served in several leadership positions during his time at the firm, most notably as a long-time leader of the firm’s well-established Financial Institutions practice, and most recently as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, a committee in which he will now lead. Messaglia’s focus will be to enhance the already-strong footprint of one of Indiana’s largest locally-based law firms.
Over the years, Messaglia, a corporate and banking attorney, has been involved in many of the firm’s largest and most notable merger and acquisition transactions involving both public and private companies, recently serving as lead counsel to Old National Bancorp’s acquisition of St. Paul, Minnesota-based Anchor Bancorp, Inc. He has served as issuer's counsel in public and private offerings of securities, including Merchants Bancorp’s recent initial public offering, and has also advised financial institutions of all sizes on corporate, bank regulatory and enforcement matters. His legal work will continue in these areas along with the addition of his new responsibilities as Managing Partner.
“I am humbled to be elected by my Partners to serve as Managing Partner of this great law firm. I remain dedicated to the firm’s long-standing commitment to our clients, colleagues and communities we serve. I welcome both the challenge and privilege of leading our esteemed law firm and to use the same founding principles that have been our foundation for more than 140 years,” said Messaglia.
Deborah Daniels, the firm’s former Managing Partner, will remain a Partner, providing counsel to the firm’s public and private sector clients in matters including federal and state regulatory compliance and internal investigations. Daniels, who in 2017 authored a landmark report for USA Gymnastics recommending multiple improvements in the organization’s protection of athletes, will focus her practice significantly on sexual harassment and sexual abuse internal investigations and policy formation.
“It has been my honor to have led Krieg DeVault for the past 3 years,” said Daniels. “I am very pleased with the election of Mike Messaglia, whose leadership abilities, impressive financial background and commitment to Krieg DeVault make him a natural fit for the continued growth and success of our firm.”
Messaglia’s awards and recognitions include Indiana Super Lawyers, the Indianapolis Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40,” and Chambers USA: Leader In the Field of Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions. He received his B.B.A. (Accountancy) and J.D. from the University of Notre Dame.
