On June 12, 2019, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (“FSSA”) issued an announcement that it is suspending development of the new enrollment and credentialing system (“EnCred”) for Indiana Medicaid providers.
Prior to this announcement, FSSA had been developing EnCred in compliance with House Enrolled Act 1007-2018, which mandates a centralized credentialing process for Indiana Medicaid providers. The goal with EnCred was to streamline Indiana Health Coverage Programs (“IHCP”) provider enrollment and managed care credentialing into one process. FSSA does not explain the reasons for its suspension of EnCred in its announcement. Rather, FSSA stated that it will be taking time over the next few months to identify next steps and a path forward, but is still committed to delivering on the requirements of Indiana law, HEA 1007-2018. Until FSSA announces implementation of its centralized enrollment and credentialing process, or some variation thereof, Indiana Medicaid providers remain subject to existing enrollment and verification requirements for Indiana Medicaid and Indiana Medicaid managed care entities.
