Legal Assistant –
Full-Time, Indianapolis, IN (Transactional and Litigation)

Krieg DeVault is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to work with our Transactional and Litigation practice who wishes to continue their career in a highly professional environment which inspires teamwork and collaboration. This position will work from our downtown Indianapolis, Indiana office with other talented individuals who share a passion for doing great work in the best interest of our clients. This position provides support in a fast paced, always changing environment. The successful candidate will be self-motivated with a hands-on, positive, "can-do" approach with a desire to think creatively to identify and implement proactive solutions. 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Manage traditional administrative needs of multiple attorneys;
  • Provide legal administrative support for transactional and litigation work;
  • Prepare highly confidential documents such as agreements, contracts, correspondence, memoranda communications to clients;
  • Provide transactional closing support by preparing closing binders, checklists and signature packets;
  • Anticipating attorney needs, maintaining systems for version control, file organization, and closing documentation;
  • Opens new files, request conflicts of interest checks and maintain client and general files;
  • Manage attorney calendars;
  • Provide litigation support through court filings, managing case files, and preparing legal documents;
  • Provide organizational assistance with meetings, billings, travel and maintaining calendars;
  • Proactively ensure legal team is prepared with necessary materials for meetings and depositions;
  • Provide marketing assistance by managing alerts, updates, creating PowerPoints and spreadsheets;
  • Demonstrate good judgment and professionalism, and exhibit flexibility and versatility to provide support;
  • Demonstrate strong reasoning and resolution skills;
  • Perform special projects as required to increase the professional effectiveness and efficiency of the legal team;


Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of experience as a legal assistant with at least one year of litigation experience;
  • Minimum of a high school diploma;
  • Mastery of Microsoft Word – including creating and manipulating styles, using keyboard shortcuts, auto-numbering paragraphs, hyperlinking to other documents, creating tables of contents, tables of authorities, footnotes, and tables;
  • Mastery of Microsoft Outlook, including managing multiple attorney calendars;
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Excel – including knowing how to sum a column of numbers, hide and display columns and rows, do custom sorts and filters, and average a column of numbers;
  • Significant experience with Adobe Acrobat Professional – including the ability to rearrange pages, link to other PDF's and websites, manage passwords/security, insert pages, create signature stamps, add footers and headers, create bookmarks, and combine several PDFs into a single portfolio;
  • Significant experience with Microsoft PowerPoint – including inserting pictures and video, creating templates, rearranging slides;
  • Knowledge of the Federal Court ECF system and experience filing pleadings;
  • Knowledge of the Indiana electronic court filing system;
  • Experience with a server-based document management system - I-Manage/File Site would be a plus;
  • Able to type from dictation.

Summer Intern - Legal AI Strategy & Enablement  

Part-Time, Indianapolis, IN

Krieg DeVault is seeking a Summer Intern to support the Firm’s Legal AI strategy, implementation, and training initiatives. This role is designed for a student interested in the practical application of AI within a professional services and legal environment.

The intern will help translate emerging AI capabilities into practical, secure, and responsible workflows for attorneys and business professionals. This is an outcomes-driven, workflow-focused role centered on adoption, enablement, and operational impact—not software engineering or technical system development.

The intern will support initiatives that introduce AI usage, effectively, responsibly, and efficiently within the Firm.

A strong emphasis will be placed on governance-conscious implementation, responsible AI guardrails, confidentiality, and practical workflow integration. Key job duties will include support of AI strategy, workflow analysis, use-case development, AI implementation, governance and pilot support, training, user enablement, and the production of polished, executive-friendly deliverables that support strategic decision-making and user adoption.

Legal Recruiting and Professional Development Assistant

Full-Time, Indianapolis

Krieg DeVault is seeking a Legal Recruiting and Professional Development Assistant to provides administrative, logistical, and project management support to the Chair of the Professional Personnel Committee and the Chair of the Talent Acquisition Committee. Reporting to the Chief Business & Talent Development Officer, the Legal Recruiting and Professional Development Assistant will support initiatives related to timekeeper recruitment, professional development, attorney engagement, and culture-building. This position offers broad exposure to the Firm’s talent strategy and is ideal for someone interested in legal recruiting, attorney development, and professional services operations.

Essential Job Duties:

Legal Recruiting Support

  • Support the Chair of the Talent Acquisition Committee and the Chief Business & Talent Development Officer with full-cycle recruitment for associates, paralegals, staff attorneys, and other timekeepers.
  • Manage interview scheduling and coordinate attorney availability.
  • Maintain applicant-tracking systems and recruitment databases.
  • Assist with coordinating attorney involvement in recruiting activities and interview processes.
  • Support follow-up communications and candidate experience initiatives.

Summer Associate Program Support — Event Planning & Program Management

  • Working collaboratively with the Summer Program Coordinators and the Chair of the Talent Acquisition Committee:
    • Assist in developing the summer program calendar, including training sessions, professional development programming, and social events.
    • Coordinate with attorneys to schedule events and ensure strong participation.
    • Manage event logistics such as venue selection, catering, invitations, and materials (agendas, handouts, name tags, presentations).
    • Serve as on-site or day-of point of contact to support smooth event execution.
    • Track attendance, gather feedback, and maintain program documentation.
    • Assist with mid-summer and end-of-summer evaluations, including collecting feedback from attorneys and summer associates.
    • Support preparation of end-of-program summaries and follow-up communications related to offer decisions.

Professional Development

  • Assist with managing associate training programs and related scheduling, logistics, and communications.
  • Prepare materials, presentations, and internal communications for professional development initiatives.
  • Track associate progress, competencies, and performance-related data.
  • Support mentoring programs, evaluations, and feedback cycles.
  • Provide administrative and project support for attorney engagement and culture-building programs.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and summaries for leadership meetings.
  • Coordinate Partner and Senior Associate mentoring assignments and prepare annual update recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Legal Assistants to schedule four annual mentor/mentee lunches and maintain tracking spreadsheets.
  • Identify associates eligible for the Senior Associate designation and coordinate next steps with the PPC Chair.
  • Schedule partner check-in calls for Senior Associates regarding progression toward partnership (core members only) and maintain summary notes to support coaching.
  • Collaborate with the PPC Chair to schedule Partnership Readiness Sessions for associates up for partnership vote in the current year.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and tracking tools across professional development and recruiting functions.
  • Provide general administrative support including scheduling, document preparation, and data entry.
  • Support special projects and firmwide initiatives as assigned.
     

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Prior administrative, recruiting, or professional services experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff and leadership.
  • High attention to detail and strong follow‑through.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Strong customer-service mindset when working with attorneys and staff.
  • Project management and organizational skills.
  • Event coordination experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Self‑starter with the ability to work independently while remaining closely aligned with Firm leadership.
