As a member of our Labor and Employment Practice, April Aldridge brings over 18 years of legal experience to Krieg DeVault. Ms. Aldridge provides on-site services to health care organizations, including contract management, healthcare administration, advising on patient liability issues, legal compliance and risk consulting.
Additionally, she assists attorneys and clients with a variety of complex health care and commercial litigation, and has extensive experience in coordinating discovery requests and responses, reviewing and maintaining pertinent records and documents, coordinating depositions and drafting initial pleadings in both state and federal courts.
Liability Reduction and Lawsuit Prevention
- Manage and review numerous legal contracts and agreements to assure asset protection and serve as risk management consultant; provide liability assessments and advise on risk mitigation
- Conduct on-site investigations to identify potential risks
- Collaborate and participate in continuing education presentations for leadership and staff regarding legal issues in healthcare
- Consult on best practices for managing non-compliant/aggressive patients
- Consult on potential premises liability claims and mitigation of risk
Compliance and Regulatory Risk Reduction
- Conduct HIPAA risk assessments
- Conduct HIPAA compliance walkthroughs
- Consult with health information management leadership regarding HIPAA compliance, process and workflow
- Consult on peer review investigations to assure appropriate process utilization
Process Improvement/Efficiency Initiatives
- Consult regarding processes and applicable statutes for the treatment of worker’s compensation patients
- Consult on best practices for navigating potential concerns with documentation, patient altercations, non-compliance, contractual relations, duty of care, physician-patient relationships, abandonment claims, independent medical examinations, etc.
- Act as liaison between hospital/clinic staff and legal counsel in litigated matters
- Educate staff on appropriate use of legal resources while encouraging ownership and initiative
- Review of internal processes to identify areas of waste; formulate strategies that encourage efficient use of resources
- Review and revise policies and procedures
