Medical Staff, Credentialing and Peer Review

Krieg DeVault represents and advises hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, health systems and their medical staffs on organizational and operational issues, including but not limited to, structuring medical staff committees, preparing medical staff bylaws, credentialing of providers, and overseeing the peer review process. Our healthcare attorneys are well versed in the accreditation standards of various types of health care providers and ensure our clients have the tools they need to support compliance, as well as evaluate potential staffing or organizational changes to align innovation and compliance with the standards. We also counsel our clients in the peer review process, including any corrective action and fair hearing, to ensure they are following their bylaws and comply with state and federal peer review laws. Our firm assists our clients in developing and operationalizing "best practices" to ensure compliance with state laws and accreditation standards.

Representative Experience: 

• Assist in drafting medical staff bylaws, rules & regulations, corrective action and fair hearing plans, and credentialing manuals, including revisions to reflect regulatory and industry updates.
• Advise on credentialing standards in compliance with accreditation requirements.
• Oversee the administration of the peer review process, including corrective action and the fair hearing process.
• Determine and assist in the provision of national data bank and state agency reporting, based on peer review process and outcome.
